I am not creative, can I still attend?
Everyone is welcome and everyone has their own spark of creativity! Creativity often consists of merely turning up what’s already there. Coming out to a workshop may help you explore the possibilities of your own creativity! Even if you do not wish to participate hands-on, you are still more than welcome to come out and enjoy yourself. You can be an observer or you can chat and meet some new friends.
Do I have to make a commitment to all the workshops, if I only want to come to certain ones?
By no means do you need to make a commitment to come to all of the workshops - after all, not every workshop will appeal to everyone.
There are certain circumstances such as the play or the stand up comedy performance, where participants would be expected to make a commitment throughout the duration of that particular event but that does not apply to monthly workshops or one-time events. If there is some sort of commitment involved with a particular project, each person would be made aware of that before signing up for the project.
Do I have to disclose who referred me, my diagnosis, and anything else that is private?
No, you will never be asked to disclose any private information about yourself. Our workshops are for people to have fun, make new friends and build confidence – who referred you and your diagnosis will never be factors in your participation.
I don't want to be known as someone with a mental illness. Will I be stigmatized if I participate?
One of the best things about Spark of Brilliance workshops is that a wide variety of people participate including people with mental health issues , people from the mainstream community, family members and friends of people with mental health issues. Because of the variety of people, one will never know who is who. We all just have a great time together.
What does it cost?
Unless otherwise stated, all of the workshops are free of charge and offer free parking and free refreshments.
Who else is there? Will there be people my age?
The ages of the people in our workshops are always different. We’ve had participants from every generation from the very young to the young at heart. Spark of Brilliance workshops attract people of all ages and abilities. Regardless of age, we all have a great time together.
What if I get there and I don't like it/don't feel comfortable, etc ?
If you ever come to a workshop and you are not interested in it or you don’t feel comfortable you will always have the choice to leave at any time. If you are not interested in the activity, you are still more than welcome to stay, observe and enjoy the company of other participants. If you are uncomfortable with something you can make a suggestion as to what would make you feel more comfortable or you may leave at any time.
What happens if I leave? Can I come back to other workshops?
Definitely! Just because you choose not to participate in one workshop, you are more than welcome to try another one that is better suited to your interests.
How will I know about other workshops?
